Tales of a Christmas dinner
23 Dec 2023
What a crazy night. OK, you’re probably not going to find it crazy, but it’s crazy by my standards.
I had a Christmas dinner with my college colleagues (we have one every year). We went out to a cafe/restaurant to have a francesinha (a typical Portuguese dish).
These dinners are nice to keep in touch with your friends since after colleagues we spread across Europe. Anyway, after eating (and drinking) we decided to move to a bar. However, we decided to go to a bar in the center of Porto and to go on foot.
After a forty-minute walk, we arrived at the center where we went to our traditional bar, to have our traditional celebration drink: a shot of “hydromel” (a kind of mead).
We then moved to another bar to have some drinks while we talked. The conversation must have been pretty good because 6 a.m. rolled in pretty fast (and it actually didn’t feel like 6 a.m.). I slept in my friend’s house (or at least I tried to sleep). At 10:30 a.m. I was already awake, so I got a shaky 3.5 hours of sleep.
Having a bitch of a hangover, me and my colleague (actually, Manuel from the stairs) went to a local shopping center to have lunch. Going to this place also had an ulterior motive, which was my need to buy a Christmas present for my mom. After doing so (and completing my shopping list), we left the center (tired as hell) and rode the metro across the city so that Manuel could catch the train back to his hometown.
Since today is a Saturday, I don’t have many buses to my town, so I needed to wait around for a couple of hours. I was so tired that I just laid on top of a public bench and caught some ZZZs.
The bus arrived, I got on it, and It was the fastest trip back home yet (I probably fell asleep). It’s good to be back.
Despite being super tired, and hangover, It was worth it. See you tomorrow for the last day of blogmas.
