Pre-sleep prompts
04 Feb 2024
Today I feel like I did in many of those Blogmas days… without having any clue on what I want to write about. Maybe that’s on me, I don’t have to (and shouldn’t) leave the blog post for the last day of the week.
Anyway, in a true “cheat the system” fashion, I want to tell you something curious about myself: about the scenarios I imagine before falling asleep. I know it’s an odd topic, and I promise you it won’t result in a big post, but it should be fun, so let’s get on with it.
-
I imagine a small beach, on a remote island, near sunset. I’m lying on a hammock in the palm trees and I can hear the waves crashing – I guess this is a cliché happy place, but still, feels very cozy to me.
-
I’m in a tent, while it’s raining outside, I can hear the rain fall on the tent, and it’s cold outside – This one came to be when I made a backpacking trip with a good friend of mine some years ago. During the first night, it rained a lot and I slept peacefully.
-
I’m outside, wrapped in my blanket under some cover. I can see the rain pouring down in front of me. – It’s very similar to the previous one, in retrospect, it seems like I’m homeless.
OK before the last one, I think I need to pause because it’s about to get weird.
- I’m in an assembly of people that look like me, well… they are me, I call it the “Assembly of Davids”. I use it to reflect on different life topics. In the assembly, I essentially talk to myself about these topics and try to come up with solutions and/or mitigations. I know it’s weird, but I guess somehow I use it to cope with whatever is stressing me by talking it through with myself.
So here we are, I guess some of you might have thought I was going to talk about tome scientific-backed or military-proven way of falling asleep. Sorry to disappoint, but I think this is way more fun.
See you next week.
