Life is like a box of chocolates that fell apart on the first days of December
07 Dec 2023
Today I bring you a short post, back on a sad note. As you know from a previous post, I have a tradition of “following” a chocolate advent calendar every year.
It’s particularly dear to my heart because my mom buys it for me. I also recall mentioning that, this year, I asked for a simpler one, which turned out to be a cheap, off-brand one from the nearest supermarket, exactly what I asked for.
In my native language, we have an expression that says “o barato sai caro”, which means that cheap things often turn out to be expensive.
By day two of eating the chocolates, I started hearing the chocolates fall from their little capsules. This is usually no cause to worry, normally it’s just one or two chocolates that one can push back into place. Well, things started changing when I consistently opened windows that didn’t have any chocolate in them.
I even tried to save it by opening the box (which by itself is already a sad thing) and putting the chocolates back into their places.
But to no avail, today I hurt the chocolates falling and opened an empty window. Insult to injury, the chocolates also taste very sour. Not a good omen for this Christmas.
The calendar currently sits at the top of my garbage can, along with some chocolates that fell out of it when I threw it against the floor in a fit of rage.
I’m currently in the market for an advent calendar, which is not easy on the 8th of December. Maybe I should just call it a day, and try again next year. Are traditions made to be broken?
See you tomorrow!
