It surely smells like Christmas
18 Dec 2023
As you’ve guessed, Christmas is approaching, and our team, at work, decided to do a special team-building event to celebrate. We decided to cook rabanadas at the office. So today, I’m going to share our recipe with you 1.
- In a medium pot add milk with cinnamon sticks, cinnamon powder, and lemon peel.
- Slice your bread into thick slices and place them in a large tray.
- After the milk starts boiling, turn off the heat.
- One by one, dip your rabanadas in the hot milk and place them back in the tray.
- Prepare a plate with beaten eggs.
- Prepare a plate with a mixture of white sugar and cinnamon powder.
- Heat up vegetable oil in a large pot.
- You now have your working station to cook rabanadas.
- Place your rabanada in the egg wash. Make sure you cover all sides of the rabanada.
- Place your rabanada in the oil and flip it until all sides are golden brown.
- After leaving the pan, the rabanada is placed in the sugar mixture, to be coated.
- Enjoy it warm or cold.
Notice that I didn’t mention any quantities, because we, like true chefs, didn’t measure anything and just did it by feel.
To be honest, it was a great experience, that started with all the logistics. Everyone was mesmerized seeing how some team decided to bring a portable stove, pots, and pans and did a full-blown rabanada cookout on the office’s balcony. Dream big kids!
See you tomorrow!

Seeing that the English Wikipedia page for Rabanas is the French toast one made me wonder if I’m just going to tell you a recipe for French toast. ↩
